This Week’s Theme: The Power of Love – by Ken Turner, May 30, 2018
I John 4:11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
Thought for today…
If God loves us, and if God loves our neighbors, and the stranger in the grocery store, and people in our church, and our co-workers, and our relatives, then we should also love one another. We should be imitators of God in all ways, especially in our capacity to love.

I John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Thought for today…
Love is of God. He is the source of holy and judicious love. Since God is the source of love, everyone who is born of God can love others in ways that mirror God’s divine nature. Through the power of God and His love, you can effectively love in the most challenging situations. Ask Him today to expand and empower your ability to love others with a real “love that comes from God.”

I Corinthians 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
Thought for today…
The ability to speak eloquently and say all the right words is like hearing the wind chimes blowing in the breeze if the words come from a heart empty of love.

This Week’s Theme: Exercise Your Faith – by Ken Turner, May 25, 2018
Acts 16:5
And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Thought for today…
When the church, as a body of believers, is thoroughly convinced and fully committed to their faith in Jesus Christ the church will consistently grow. The outside world is attracted to people who know the truth, who are unafraid to proclaim truth and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live victoriously.

James 2:20
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Thought for today…
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Don’t be confused by scripture that speaks of both faith and works. It might seem confusing when you read that Paul said in Romans 3:28 that we are justified by faith without deeds of the law, but James says faith without works is dead.
Paul was speaking to the person who believed their commitment to following the law (or being a good person) was enough so they didn’t need salvation in Christ.
James was speaking to the person who was relying on a shallow commitment to Christ that resulted in an unchanged life.
Here lies the challenge for today. Don’t be the person who believes your good works will be enough to attain heaven and don’t be the person who believes a shallow spiritual decision that results in no change in you is reliable enough.

This Week’s Theme: Faith – by Ken Turner, May 23, 2018
James 1:3
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Thought for today…
Your faith, when it is tried and tested, leads to spiritual maturity. There are three responses to the test of your faith: Hebrews 12:5, 11
1. Despise It –
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord…
2. Faint Under It –
nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
3. Be Exercised By It –
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
