I Corinthians 13:1 – Words Rooted In Love Have Impact

I Corinthians 13:1 – Words Rooted In Love Have Impact

This Week’s Theme: The Power of Love – by Ken Turner, May 28, 2018

I Corinthians 13:1

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Thought for today…

The ability to speak eloquently and say all the right words is like hearing the wind chimes blowing in the breeze if the words come from a heart empty of love.

Acts 16:5 – The Faith Filled Church Increases In Numbers

Acts 16:5 – The Faith Filled Church Increases In Numbers

This Week’s Theme: Exercise Your Faith – by Ken Turner, May 25, 2018

Acts 16:5

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Thought for today…

When the church, as a body of believers, is thoroughly convinced and fully committed to their faith in Jesus Christ the church will consistently grow. The outside world is attracted to people who know the truth, who are unafraid to proclaim truth and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live victoriously.

James 2:20 – Faith Without Works Is Dead

James 2:20 – Faith Without Works Is Dead

This Week’s Theme: Exercise Your Faith – by Ken Turner, May 24, 2018

James 2:20

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Thought for today…

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Don’t be confused by scripture that speaks of both faith and works. It might seem confusing when you read that Paul said in Romans 3:28 that we are justified by faith without deeds of the law, but James says faith without works is dead.

Paul was speaking to the person who believed their commitment to following the law (or being a good person) was enough so they didn’t need salvation in Christ.

James was speaking to the person who was relying on a shallow commitment to Christ that resulted in an unchanged life.

Here lies the challenge for today. Don’t be the person who believes your good works will be enough to attain heaven and don’t be the person who believes a shallow spiritual decision that results in no change in you is reliable enough.

James 1:3 – Faith When Tried Leads To Maturity

James 1:3 – Faith When Tried Leads To Maturity

This Week’s Theme: Faith – by Ken Turner, May 23, 2018

James 1:3

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Thought for today…

Your faith, when it is tried and tested, leads to spiritual maturity. There are three responses to the test of your faith: Hebrews 12:5, 11

1. Despise It –

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord…

2. Faint Under It –

nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

3. Be Exercised By It –

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Hebrews 12:2 – The Author and Finisher of Faith

Hebrews 12:2 – The Author and Finisher of Faith

This Week’s Theme: Faith – by Ken Turner, May 22, 2018

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Thought for today…

Jesus not only wants us to live by faith, He is the “author” of faith. He is the original pioneer of a faith-filled life. Christ is our role model, and our example to follow. He is also the “finisher” of faith. He perfected faith as a trait we can embrace and continue to cultivate in our spiritual walk. Don’t try to live a productive Christian life ignoring the need to put your faith into practice. What are you doing yourself that you could hand over to God, asking Him in faith, to bring a greater result?

Hebrews 11:1 – Faith Is The Substance

Hebrews 11:1 – Faith Is The Substance

This Week’s Theme: Faith – by Ken Turner, May 21, 2018

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Thought for today…

Faith is the foundation of hope and joy. It is our confidence and our strength. Faith is the belief in everything God promises. He is good, He will provide, and He will deliver on every promise He has made to us as His children. Our faith produces a joy unspeakable and full of glory.
